Privacy policy
Last updated October 31, 2026. This covers the Talkfar beta sign-up and the beta app. Plain words, no tricks.
Who we are
Talkfar is a small independent project based in San Jose, California. Questions or requests: hello@talkfar.app.
What we collect when you sign up
- Your name and email, and whether you are a parent, guardian, the young adult, or a professional.
- About your teen: age, how they usually talk, how easy their speech is to understand, whether they use a device on their own, how they might feel about the app, their interests and what you hope will change (if you tell us), and the device they'd use. We do not ask for your teen's name.
- In the follow-up: whether your teen sees a speech therapist (you can skip this), whether you can do check-ins, whether you'd like to talk before starting, your time zone, and anything else you choose to write.
What we collect if your family joins the beta
- The text of your teen's talks with Talkfar. Speech is turned into text; audio is not kept.
- Pictures Talkfar draws during talks, and photos your teen chooses to show it.
- Basic usage: when talks happen and how long they last.
- What you tell Talkfar about your teen on your parent page.
How we use it
- To choose beta families and contact you about the beta.
- To run the app: remember your teen's interests, write your note after each talk, and alert you if something your teen says sounds like danger.
- To learn whether Talkfar helps and to improve it.
We never sell your information and never use it for advertising.
Who processes it
We store data with Google Cloud in the United States. To run talks we send text to AI providers (Anthropic for the conversation, Deepgram for speech-to-text, ElevenLabs for the voice) and use an email provider to send beta emails. They process it for us under their business terms.
How long we keep it
Sign-ups are kept until the beta ends and launch is announced, then deleted unless you join. During the beta, talks are kept while your family takes part. You can delete everything at any time from your parent page or by emailing us.
Children and teens
Talkfar is for ages 13 to 22. For anyone under 18, a parent or guardian signs up and consents; the teen agrees to try it. Teens 18 and older consent for themselves.
Your choices
- Ask to see, correct or delete what we have about you or your teen: email hello@talkfar.app.
- Leave the beta at any time. Deletion is permanent.
California residents have rights to know, delete and correct personal information and not to be discriminated against for using them. Email us to use them.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll email beta families before it takes effect.
